I was right, the GP was wrong. Dad does have some degree of heart failure, probably LVF.

Dad's back in hospital. We had the GP out last week cos his breathing's been bad since his heart attack. I said to the GP that i thought it was Left Ventricular Failure. She disagreed because his lungs were clear and there was no obvious fluid retention.

Well last night his right leg swelled to twice it's normal size with fluid, so today he's back in hospital... Just waiting to hear if my hunch is right.

my dad's had a nasty chest infection for the last week. on friday mum took him back to the doctor as it wasn't clearing up. while there Dad started complaining of central chest pain. given his history, the doctor didn't want to take any chances and called an ambulance and although nothing showed on their ECG, they didn't want to take any chances either and took him to hospital.

the pain subsided and dad was taken to the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) for further tests. we were told it was non-cardiac, but given his chest infection they wanted to keep him in for observation.

on Sunday, dad contracted Norovirus (clicky) while still on MAU, giving him really bad Diarrhea. this made him too weak to walk and so meant that he messed himself several times.

on monday they sent him home.

today he seems to have a little strength back, but is still very week and not very happy.

oh and on monday they said dad had had a minor heart attack on friday, he had a Non-ST Elavation Miocardial Infarction (NSTEMI)

Dad devastated, originally uploaded by big-ashb.

One thing dad has loved throughout his life is photography and it's the thing he's trying so hard to get back into since his stroke.
Today a friend of the family took mum and dad to a wildlife park and dad took lots of photos. Imagine then his utter devastation when he got home and tried to look at the photos he took, only to find he hadn't put a memory card in his camera!

Luckily mum got some pictures.

Dad has just had another mini stroke. He should recover fine from it, but it will be a big set back mentally.

dad has made some excellent progress!

DSC00571

as you can see in the picture he's had some quite major surgery and despite that, the doctors think he's doing so well he may be able to come home tomorrow!
the pins holding his chest closed come out in a week or so.

I've never felt so relaxed. Dad was out of intensive care first thing this morning and ate breakfast and lunch on the high dependancy ward.Meanwhile i've had a pedicure/foot massage, a chocolate back massage and a facial. My body feels like leaden jelly and my mind feels empty!
To anyone stressed i can really recommend a day of pampering.
